National Council of Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition Coordinators

The National Council is comprised of each state's Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition Coordinator. The Council is a part of the Association of State & Territorial Public Health Nutrition Directors (ASTPHND).

Our Vision
Passionate and successful Coordinators lead state and national efforts to promote optimal health through increased fruit and vegetable consumption.

Our Mission
To provide Coordinators with leadership opportunities and to serve as an organized voice in decisions that affect national fruit and vegetable public health planning.

Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition Coordinators
• Coordinators manage a wide range of projects in their locales, from working on fruit and vegetable programs for low-income families to working on improving access to fruits and vegetables in their communities.

• The Council works to ensure that each state, territory, and the District of Columbia have one person designated as the Fruit and Vegetable Nutrition Coordinator.

• Coordinators may be funded through a state agency such as a department of health or university as well as a variety of federal and state funding sources.

What's New in Increasing Fruit and Vegetable Consumption

Cultivating Childhood Wellness through Gardening is an online video training developed by the Wisconsin Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Program and Community GroundWorks in partnership with UW-Extension, Life Lab, Wisconsin Obesity Prevention Network, UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, and UW-Madison Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems.

USDA announced the release of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) Evaluation Report! Key findings are below.  You can also view the press release, report summary and full report.

 
 
Partnering with the National Council of Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition Coordinators

Here are ways that your organization or agency can partner with the Fruit & Vegetable Council:
 
•     Collaborate with the Council to provide insight and guidance on decisions that affect national fruit and vegetable public health policies and planning.

•     Work with the Council to connect relevant work with Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition Coordinators from each state, territory and the District of Columbia.

•     Coordinate with the Council to broaden the scope and reach of state and national strategies that improve fruit and vegetable consumption.

National Fruit & Vegetable Alliance

The National Council of Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition Coordinators is a member of the National Fruit & Vegetable Alliance (NFVA).  The Alliance brings together government agencies, noprofit organizations and industry to work for increased  access nationwide and demand for fruits and vegetables to improve public health.

Fresh Produce Procurement from Garden to Cafeteria

The Washington State Department of Agriculture now has new tools and resources available to assist school districts in their farm to school efforts.  A School’s Guide to Purchasing Washington-Grown Food Using Geographic Preference to Strengthen Farm to School presents a range of policies and procedures that affect school food purchases of locally-grown foods.  The Farm to School Start-Up Kit is a collection of resources developed in a new farm to school program at Washington's Kent School District.  The kit can assist schools in launching their farm to school efforts. The Start-Up Kit provides step-by-step guidance, tools and resources. 

Alaska now has Farm to School School Garden Food Safety Guidelines and a wealth of other school food service documents
